"There isn't anything to worry staying here, the staff are exceptional, the food was perfect, and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend the venue for any occasion."

'First Class Customer Service'
"THE BAD BIT: Sadly on the day I required and emergency extraction of an upper molar this left me in more than a degree of discomfort, unable to eat and no alcohol had to cancel. Some Valentine Night away (with the wife). THE GOOD BIT: Spoke to Michael who was very understanding and readily offered to let me to transfer the booking to another night. Having made the booking through a third party website I was very impressed by the offer and I am looking forward to our night away next week, when Michael will get our thanks and drink from us. On past experience of this Hotel I know that they will deserve straight 5 * across the board."

'Good welcoming hotel.'
"Staff very friendly and helpful. Food very good although wished I'd ordered a small portion of scampi on the second night as there was too many chips on the plate. Room well presented and clean. Plenty of drawers and hangers and everything was out of sight unlike in some modern rooms were you have open shelves and open hanging space which makes the room look messy. Bathroom well decorated with a great shower over the bath and a very efficient heater on the wall. Only problem in the bathroom was that the heater was on one wall and the towel rail on the opposite wall which meant that the towels did not dry off properly between showers. Problem in the bedroom which we remembered was the same when we stayed several years ago - energy efficient bulbs in the bedside lamps meant there was not enough light to read in bed. Worried it might be noisy as we had a room at the front overlooking the market square but we didn't have any problem at all with noise. Overall we had a good time and would recommend The George and stay again."

'Excellent all round stay at The George'
"Just returned from an excellent one night stay at the George. Clean comfortable bedroom (tea and coffee making facilities, free bottled water and hairdryer). Location felt completely safe for a female travelling on her own and the Hotel has a quaint old world feel to it! All staff extremely helpful and attentive with a genuine interest in ensuring I had everything I needed. Food delicious - I had fish and chips for dinner and I'd thoroughly recommend the cooked breakfast and hot croissants! Hotel looks onto a lovely market square with a cobbled street and a small market selling all sorts of local produce on a Friday morning. I would definitely return and recommend! Thank you!"

'A cosy experience with lovely food and service'
"We had a very enjoyable stay and were delighted with everything. The hotel retains style and charm with a sense of history and is well situated for enjoying the Christmas lights in the village. The food is always very good and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."

'Lovely winter break'
"The George is wonderfully situated on the market square of this lovely market town. We were in room 5, just above the bar, but it was quiet and no disturbances. The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of tasty choices. The staff were helpful, one lady in particular sorted out bus timetables and tourist guides for us. The bus for York leaves from outside the door, which is really helpful."

'A great place to stay'
"If you are visiting York this really is a great place to stay being approx twenty minutes to the Rawcliffe Bar park and ride site. A lovely old pub which is comfortable and welcoming. Some good real ales and food are available. We had a large room at the front of the building with a view over the market square, it was clean and comfortable as was the large en-suite bathroom. The owners, Kay and Michael are superb hosts being friendly and helpful. This pub appears to have a good local trade which adds to the atmosphere in bar at night!"

'A warm welcome in the heart of Yorkshire'
"The George Hotel is a welcoming coaching inn right in the heart of Yorkshire. The rooms are clean and well-appointed with a certain quirkiness which goes with such an old, characterful building. Michael, Kay and all the staff are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The hotel is close to York, the North York's Moors and within an hour of the coast. It's worth remembering that the breakfasts are great!"

'Return to The George'
"We would always return to The George again as from the moment you step inside you are met with a warm and friendly welcome. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and nothing is too much trouble for the friendly owners and staff. The most excellent food is available with a great deal of choice. The hotel is centrally located with buses outside in the market place adjacent to York and many other of the towns and villages. We are already looking forward to our next visit."
