The George is situated in Easingwold, just off the A19 trunk road, and is a splendid base for exploring the area. The City of York, North York Moors, the Howardian Hills, the Dales and many hamlets made famous in James Herriot's popular tales are almost on our doorstep. Castle Howard of 'Brideshead Revisited' fame is close by and many attractions of the East Coast, The Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks are less than an hour's drive away. Easingwold boasts many sporting facilities and an attractive 18-hole golf course is less than a mile away.

Charles I granted a charter to Easingwold to hold a free market every Friday and two annual wakes or fairs and Easingwold continues to do so to this day. It's as pleasurable to wander around stalls in the Market Place as it is to browse in the numerous antique shops in the town.

The nearby Tourist Information Centre has leaflets with details of the town and maps of local country walks - you can find out many fascinating details about the attractive Georgian buildings which surround the cobbled Market Square.
